Mya’s Rescue

A landlord packet for Tommy

Mya is a Pit Bull, so she knows the words “no restricted breeds.” A landlord who has only read a breed list hasn’t met your dog. Fill this in, download a cover letter and pet résumé as a PDF, and give them a reason to say yes.

Nothing you type leaves this device — your draft is saved only in this browser. This packet is not a legal document or legal advice.

Before you apply

  • Haven’t adopted yet? Build the packet from the dog’s page and get your landlord’s OK before you apply. Many shelters ask renters for it, and it’s where many adoptions stall.
  • Offer a meet-and-greet. A landlord who has met your dog is judging your dog, not a breed list.
  • Ask whether a pet deposit or pet rent would work instead of a flat no.
  • Check your renter’s insurance: some carriers exclude certain breeds, and some don’t.
  • If your dog is an assistance animal, Fair Housing rules may apply. Check with a local housing agency.

General tips, not legal advice. Rules differ by city, state and lease.
